A Beginner-Friendly Robotics Challenge by IEEE SB RIT x IEEE RAS

As part of the IEEE Day 2025 celebrations, the IEEE Student Branch, Ramaiah Institute of Technology, in collaboration with the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), organized an exciting and beginner-friendly robotics event titled “Geek Games: Rise of the Arena.” The event aimed to spark interest in robotics among students from various engineering backgrounds while promoting the IEEE Day spirit of Advancing Technology for Humanity.

The competition featured two fun and interactive rounds designed to balance learning with excitement. The first round, Memory Game, tested participants’ observation and concentration skills as they replicated LED light sequences using push buttons. The second round, Sumo Bot Battle, brought the thrill of robotics to life — shortlisted participants controlled remote-operated sumo bots, strategizing to push their opponent’s bot out of the arena. Both rounds emphasized logic, timing, and teamwork, allowing even beginners to understand and enjoy the basics of robot control and automation.The event witnessed over 100 enthusiastic participants, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere filled with innovation and collaboration. Guided by IEEE volunteers, participants experienced hands-on exposure to robotics and learned how simple mechanisms can lead to complex automation systems. The event concluded successfully, highlighting IEEE’s commitment to fostering curiosity, creativity, and a strong foundation in technology among students.
