Abstract:
In modern times, energy storage has become recognized as an essential part of the energy supply chain. The primary reasons for this include its potential to improve grid stability, adopt renewable energy sources, enhance energy system efficiency, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and minimize the environmental impact of energy production. While numerous energy storage technologies have been studied and documented in the literature, their levels of technological development vary significantly, with relatively few demonstrating sustainability for commercial use. Although most research articles on energy storage provide a comprehensive overview of these technologies, additional information is needed regarding their practical implementation. To address this gap, this lecture will focus on how various energy storage systems operate and are applied in real-world scenarios. It will provide an overview of energy storage, explain various methods used to store energy (emphasizing alternative energy forms such as heat and electricity), and analyze numerous energy storage initiatives worldwide.
