2025 Study and Career Guidelines for International Students
Professor Nurul Sarkar (Auckland University of Technology: AUT) plays an active role in community development through STEM Education Programme in Aotearoa New Zealand. Prof Sarkar was invited to give a speech ‘Study and Career Guidelines for International Students’ on Sunday 19th October at Al-Manar Centre, Auckland. The event was organised by Muslim Ummah of New Zealand (MUNZ), a volunteer organisation working for the welfare of the members of the community. The lecture began with a community greeting’s highlighting AUT’s teaching and learning facilities, university ranking, and study plan, including BCIS and MCIS programmes. In the second half, ICT career opportunity, emerging trends in ICT market, and future of ICT in NZ were discussed. About 60 students attended the event, many students have expressed their interest in coming to AUT after that.

2025 Study and Career Guidelines for International Students
Biography:
Professor Nurul I. Sarkar is a distinguished academic and computer scientist specializing in network design, modelling, and performance evaluation. He currently serves as a Professor and Director of the Networking and Security Research Centre at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand. He is from Bangladesh and has worked in New Zealand for 30 years. He holds a PhD in Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering from the University of Auckland. He has previously taught at the Universities of Rajshahi, North South University, and the University of Technology Malaysia. His research interests include computer networking, wireless communication systems, and Science/ICT, on which he has written three books, 35 book chapters, 89 conference proceedings, and 97 journal articles. Professor Sarkar is the Chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Educational Activities Committee. He has been appointed as the IEEE STEM Champion, recognizing his outstanding contributions to pre-university STEM outreach education and community development in NZ. He is a member of ACM, a senior member of IEEE, and the Australasian Association for Engineering Education.
