Recent Developments in Electric Power Engineering: new ideas that are actually old ones!
Abstract:
In recent decades there have been many exciting developments in electric power engineering such as electric transportation, renewable energy, electric power systems, energy storage and others. However, not all these developments are as new as they may look. While after the dominance of petrol-fuelled cars, the recent advent of electric cars may seem new, it is interesting to note that over a century ago there were more electric cars than petrol cars. This seminar also covers other new/old technologies including DC power systems, wireless power transmission and axial-flux machines.
Biography:
Bio: Wen L. Soong completed his BEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Adelaide in 1989 and his PhD in electrical machines at the University of Glasgow in 1993.
