STEM Series for Underprivileged Children
The IEEE Islamabad Section, in collaboration with the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST)-SEECS IEEE student branch, Islamabad, launched an impactful initiative aimed at engaging underprivileged children in hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
Under this project, multiple STEM workshops were successfully conducted across several schools and foundations supporting underprivileged children. The workshops reached more than 900 students aged 10–15 years and involved over 30 teachers from participating institutions. Led by experienced STEM trainers, the sessions introduced students to a range of exciting technologies including electronic circuits, robotics, radar systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and home automation.
Each workshop concluded with the distribution of STEM workbooks to encourage continued learning, creativity, and exploration beyond the sessions. The initiative directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to quality education, poverty eradication, and reduction of inequalities.
The project not only empowered underprivileged children with practical technological knowledge but also highlighted their immense potential to contribute to the nation’s development. In the long term, such initiatives aim to inspire these children to pursue careers in science and engineering, fostering a generation of well-rounded, socially aware, and technically skilled citizens.
