CHEERS OCEANEERS! November 2025
CHEERS OCEANEERS! NOVEMBER 2025
Our main presenter is Michael B. Jones, CEO of SubSeaSail and Founder of TMA BlueTech.
Michael will talk about the development of SubSeaSail®, Inc. and its mission to revolutionize human interaction with the ocean and ocean warfare by Changing the Math with the Small, the Agile, the Many, the Invisible, the Attritable. SSS is developing two lines of disruptively affordable, dual usage, 100% energy harvesting (wind+solar), long-duration, ultra-low-signature Autonomous Undersea & Surface Vehicles (AUSVs). These sailing vessels with solar rechargeable batteries for comms, sensors and thruster – semi-submersible ISR vehicle HORUS™ and fast logistics vehicle HERMES™ – are virtually invisible above water and can submerge to 100 m to hide from bad actors/weather and listen/monitor. Backed by NSIC/DIU funding, SSS has accelerated manufacturing engineering and testing. Starting Q4 2025, SSS is accepting pre-orders for HORUS with first deliveries in Q2 2026.

Welcome to the monthly event for the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), San Diego Chapter, which is hosting this meeting jointly along with TMA BlueTech (The Maritime Alliance), and MTS (Marine Technology Society).
Please join us for the main presentation and also plenty of time for networking and friendly conversation about everything oceanic, engineering, science, Blue Tech, and more. No need to be an IEEE or OES member, or TMA, or MTS. Everyone is invited.
This month, we will be at Quantum Brewing again, a cool science-themed brewery founded by a biochemist.
No ticket required, but please order something for yourself from the brewery.
Please grab a bite from a nearby restaurant, which is okay to bring into the brewery per the owner.
The food and drinks are not being funded by the hosts. Please open your own tab.

Michael B. Jones
Biography:
Michael is co-founder and CEO of SubSeaSail®, Inc., an 8+ year old San Diego-based BlueTech firm developing two unique, patented lines of disruptively affordable, 100% energy harvesting, long-duration vehicles – HORUS™ for observation and HERMES™ for cargo/energy. Both vehicles will be able to submerge, which is a great advantage to hide from adversaries/”bad actors” and from increasingly powerful storms caused by climate change. SSS has a strong and growing IP portfolio with 11 issued, 8 pending, and 4 provisional patents.
Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona in 1973, having spent his junior year in Freiburg, Germany. He earned a Masters’ Degree from the Johns Hopkins University “School of Advanced International Studies” (SAIS) in 1977. His graduate studies included a year in Bologna, Italy; a year at the Catholic University in Lima, Peru; and an internship at the European Community headquarters in Brussels. During his senior year at SAIS, Michael had a “secret” clearance while working at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC—U.S. government political risk insurer for offshore investment) in Washington, D.C.
Michael is a U.S. citizen. He is an angel investor and founder/long-time President of TMA BlueTech. Michael has sat on a number of Boards of Directors including one American Stock Exchange company. Michael has traveled extensively and can defend himself in five languages.
