Empowering Green Ports: Microgrid Clusters as a Catalyst for Innovation and Leadership
Microgrid clusters, pivotal for the green transformation of port energy systems, face challenges in coordination control and stable operation with diverse distributed resources.
This report covers key aspects from fundamental control strategies of AC/DC microgrids to their practical application in port logistics and ship power systems. It focuses on leveraging technological innovation to enhance system efficiency, resilience, and sustainability for a carbon-neutral future.
Biography:
Ph.D. in Engineering, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor
Zhaoxia Xiao, from Tiangong University, primarily engages in research related to distributed generation systems and microgrids, as well as the planning and operational control of new distribution networks. She has led one key international scientific and technological innovation cooperation project under the National Key R&D Program: "Research on Key Technologies for Microgrid Clusters Supporting the Green Transformation of Ports." This project aims to achieve "carbon neutrality" in port power supply and promote technological progress for green power supply in ports along the "Belt and Road" countries. She has also chaired two projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China: "Research on High-Efficiency Operation Control and Stability Methods for DC Ship Microgrids under Complex Working Conditions" and "Voltage and Frequency Control and Stability Analysis of Microgrids with Multiple Types of Distributed Generation." These projects primarily focus on the control and stability of AC/DC microgrids and apply microgrid technology to ship power systems, thereby improving the operational energy efficiency of DC ships. Additionally, she has led three provincial/ministerial-level projects and over ten enterprise technological research projects. Based on the intelligentization of distribution networks, her team has developed microgrid demonstration projects, integrated wind-photovoltaic-storage-charging systems, a 60kVA energy storage converter, a three-phase interleaved DC/DC device, flexible interconnection devices for transformer districts, and supporting monitoring and energy management software. The team possesses expertise in microgrid development technology, grid-forming converter development technology, and multi-converter parallel operation technology, which can form independent technical advantages and barriers. She has published over 40 papers indexed by SCI/EI, applied for and been granted more than 10 invention patents, co-authored one monograph in the field of microgrids with Academician Wang Chengshan's research group, received multiple grants from the China Scholarship Council for collaborative research with top universities in the field, and won one Tianjin Municipal First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress.

Load Intelligence and Virtual Power Plants: Steering the Future of Distribution Systems
Under the context of the new power system, the integration of distributed resources and the flexibility of load-side resources present both opportunities and challenges. This report delves into the core technologies of load regulation and virtual power plants, exploring how they enhance grid flexibility, economic efficiency, and stability. Combined with cutting-edge research and practical project experience, the report introduces innovative strategies and systematic thinking for the coordinated operation of modern distribution and consumption systems.
Biography:
Ph.D. in Engineering, Associate Professor, Doctoral Supervisor
Meng Song, from Southeast University, primarily conducts research in load regulation, virtual power plants, power economics, and the coordinated operation of distribution and consumption systems. She has led one key project under the National Key R&D Program "Strategic Scientific and Technological Innovation," three projects (general and youth programs) funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one sub-project of a national key laboratory program, one Inner Mongolia "Unveiling the List" project, and over ten enterprise consulting projects. She has published two English monographs as the first author, authored or corresponded over 40 journal papers (published or accepted), been granted more than 10 Chinese patents, and participated in the formulation of two national standards. Her accolades include two Second Prizes for Scientific/Technological Progress or Natural Science from the Ministry of Education, one Second Prize for Technological Innovation from the China Energy Research Society, and one Gold Medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. She served as the primary advisor for a team that won the National Special Prize in the "Challenge Cup" competition for college students. Additionally, she holds editorial roles as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and as a Youth Editorial Board Member for journals such as The Innovation Energy and Electric Power Automation Equipment.
