🧠 What’s Zig Day?

It’s all about learning by doing. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced coder, you’ll spend the day working in small groups to explore Zig, a modern programming language designed for performance, safety, and simplicity — especially in embedded systems.

💡 Why join?

  • Learn how to code for embedded systems (beginner-friendly!)

  • Collaborate with peers, hobbyists, and industry professionals

  • Work on real projects and share your results

  • Build your network and have fun doing it

No prior Zig experience required. Just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn, plus $5 cash for the SUSHI!! (for BCIT students only)

Biography:

Hello! My name is Matthew Knight. I like systems programming, organizing events, and swordfighting.

I’m active in the Zig programming language community, most notably I’m a co-founder of the Zig Embedded Group. I’ve also run a couple embedded workshops.

I’m organizing another Software You Can Love in Vancouver, June 2026. The first iteration of the conference website is published. Right now it’s bare, with only the call for speakers. The last time I did this was 2023 and I had a blast. I love SYCL because of the people it brings together. In an industry that feels increasingly cynical, where “I hate computers” is even a respected outlook on technology, these are the people who are contagiously curious, nurture their love for computers. They care about how the software they write affects fellow humans. It’s my pleasure to put together something where these people can come together, coalesce ideas, and have fun.
