A Motivational Talk - From Goa to University of Sheffield: An academic Journey into CMOS Technologies and Neuromorphic C
Over 100 years since its invention we celebrate the humble Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET). Scaling of this transistor led by the ingenuity of microelectronics engineers worldwide has had a transformative eff ect on society. This talk will focus on the history of some of the challenges of device scaling. Combining memory with CMOS presents one possible pathway for massively parallel and highly energy efficient neuromorphic computing systems of the future.
Biography:
Maria Merlyne De Souza was born in Goa and received her BSc (Physics and Maths from Uni. Mumbai), B.E (Electronics and Communications Engineering, IISc Bangalore) and PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1994. She became Professor of Electronics and Materials at the Emerging Technologies Research Centre, De Montfort University in 2003 and Professor of Microelectronics at the University of Sheffield in 2007.
She has been a technical and executive committee member of IEEE- International Electron Devices Meeting between 2012-2017 (the longest serving member in IEDM from UK) and a technical committee member of the IEEE-International Reliability Physics Symposium 2003-2013.
