AI Based Digital Predistortion Design
IEEE North Jersey Section and IEEE North Jersey Section AP/MTT Chapter co-sponsors
39th Annual Symposium and Mini Show
The North Jersey IEEE MTT/AP Societies invite you to the 39th Annual Symposium and Mini-Show on Wednesday, October 9, at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, NJ.
The Technical Conference presents a series of 13 lectures describing the state-of-the-art in Digital Radio, Emerging Apps, Propagation Modeling, Digital Twins, Devices, Biomedical RF, Wireless Power Transfer, AI Digital Predistortion, The Inside History on 9/11, Phased Arrays & UAS Detection Systems.
The speakers are leaders in their respective fields, at L3Harris, Mercury Systems, IEEE, Synergy Microwave, Altair, Indian Institute of Technology, CommScope, University of Texas, MathWorks, US ARMY, San Diego State, and the United Nations.
The Mini-Show presents a group of displays and demonstrations representing the state-of-the-art in products from leading companies in these technologies. The Exhibits include components, subsystems, test equipment, and CAD tools. Technical representatives will be on-site to assist you.
Registration can be done online at vTools and also on-site, and there is no charge to attend. IEEE Membership is not required.
Complimentary breakfast, refreshments, and lunch will be provided.

Tim Reeves
AI Based Digital Predistortion Design
This presentation covers the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for digital predistortion (DPD) in Power Amplifier linearization, leveraging MathWorks tools for end-to-end wireless communications system modeling and deployment. It outlines the motivation for DPD, the workflow for integrating AI—including data preparation, model training (offline and online), pruning, and hardware deployment. Practical considerations such as data synchronization, normalization, model selection (e.g., ARVTDNN), and the importance of both simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing are also addressed. The presentation concludes by addressing common Neural Network implementation details such as model optimization through pruning and quantization to enable efficient deployment on hardware platforms like FPGAs.
Biography:
Tim Reeves is an application engineer at MathWorks, where he communicates the technical value of MathWorks’ RF and electromagnetic modeling products. Prior to joining MathWorks, he worked on the development and modeling of passive RF components used for aerospace, commercial wireless and wireline applications.
Tim holds a B.S. in electrical and computer Engineering from the University of Alberta and an M.S. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Alberta. Tim is also a senior member of the IEEE.
