Abstract:
Research on cognitive modeling of information search and web navigation emphasizes the importance of “information scent” (the relevance of semantic cues such as link labels /to/ a reader’s goal). We will discuss several cognitive models that use information scent to account for the navigation behavior of users. Next I will discuss the validity of these models. Finally I will present an empirical study demonstrating the positive impact of navigation support generated on basis of the cognitive model.
