Solar Photovoltaic technology is now well established as the cheapest electricity generation technology in most parts of the world. The low levelized cost of electricity from PV power plants is arrived at assuming low levels of potential losses due to elevated temperature of operation, low maintenance, and long lifetime of panels with low degradation rates. In this talk, I will present a comprehensive review of potential losses in power generation due to solar cell and panel performance degradation, soiling, and potential mitigation methods. The talk will mainly focus on silicon solar PV technology with some potential implications for emerging PV technologies like perovskite, perovskite/silicon tandem.
