Fiber to the Home (FTTH) is a high-speed broadband technology in which an optical fiber cable runs directly from the service provider to the customer’s home. The setup begins at the OLT (Optical Line Terminal) located at the ISP’s central office, which sends internet signals through the ODN (Optical Distribution Network). 

Inside the home, the fiber terminates at an ONT/ONU (Optical Network Terminal), which converts the optical signal into usable internet through LAN ports or built-in WiFi. During installation, the technician configures the ONT by registering its PON serial number on the OLT and setting up the internet mode (PPPoE or DHCP). A proper FTTH connection is identified by stable PON light and no LOS errors. Signal strength should ideally be between –15 dBm and –27 dBm for reliable performance. Once activated, the ONT connects to devices directly or through a separate WiFi router.
