Flexible AC Transmission Systems FACTS 101: Bringing Stability to a Rapidly Changing Power Grid
Brief description of program:
This presentation provides a technical overview of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) with an emphasis on high-voltage power electronic solutions such as STATCOM. The session will cover the operating principles, control strategies, and dynamic performance characteristics that enable these devices to deliver fast and precise reactive power compensation. FACTS technologies are increasingly vital for maintaining voltage stability and improving power quality as transmission systems experience higher loading from large-scale data centers and integrate significant levels of variable renewable generation. Attendees will gain insight into system-level impacts, equipment designs, and emerging trends in FACTS deployment for modern transmission networks.
