Electromagnetic drive for space vehicles
The development of space activities is in full swing, the next step is the departure of people into deep space: the Moon, Mars, ... Without some alternative, the current activity uses chemical energy for this purpose, which is inappropriate for this purpose. The future lies in electromagnetic propulsion, which will be discussed in the lecture: efficiency, energy sources, materials needed for its development and a description of the operation of EM thrusters.

Electromagnetic drive for space vehicles
Biography:
Slobodan Danko Bosanac graduated in 1968 in theoretical physics from the University of Zagreb and was employed as a postgraduate assistant at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in 1969. He defended his doctorate in 1972 at the University of Sussex in the field of Molecular Sciences. After postdoctoral research at the University of Bristol, Great Britain, he returned to the R. Bošković Institute in 1974, since which time it has been his permanent domicile institution. During his research, over 100 papers and five books have been published, and he was the principal investigator on several international scientific projects. Slobodan Bosanac is a visiting professor at numerous universities, including: University of Florida, University of Kaiserslautern, MPI fuer Stromungsforschung in Göttingen, University of Sussex, Harvard University, MIT, and the Federal University of Minas Gerais. For his work, he received two state awards for science, in 1997 and 2013. His research interests include atomic and molecular physics, electromagnetic interaction with charges, and astrophysics. In 1986, he initiated a series of interdisciplinary conferences under the general title "Brijuni Conference", which is still active. Slobodan Bosanac was the president of the Croatian branch of the American organization Center for Inquiry, whose primary goal is the promotion of science, and the president of the Croatian Astronomical Society from 2008 to 2012. In 1973, he was appointed Head of the Office for Croatia of the company Swiss Space Systems. The company was founded in 1972 with the main goal of commercializing suborbital space, launching satellites and transporting passengers and goods. The company ceased operations in 2017, and with the assembled team, he launched the idea of an organization that would be central to the space program in Croatia. With this concept in mind, the Adriatic Aerospace Association was founded in 2017, where Bosanac is now the president.
