Alex James of Digital University Kerala

Biography:

Dr. Alex P. James is a Full Professor of AI Hardware and Dean of External Linkage and Projects at Digital University Kerala (DUK). He earned his Ph.D. from the Queensland Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre, Griffith University, Australia. His leadership footprint spans major national innovation initiatives—he serves as Chief Scientist and CTO at the India Graphene Engineering and Innovation Centre and leads Centres of Excellence in IoT Sensors, Graphene, and AI Chips under the Government of India. He additionally heads Maker Village, one of India’s largest deep-tech hardware incubators.

Dr. James’s research interests include AI hardware, neuromorphic VLSI, memristive circuits and systems, analog/mixed-signal IC design, and intelligent imaging. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and actively contributes to the global circuits and systems community through editorial and technical leadership roles. He has been recognized as Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS), and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK).

He currently serves on the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) Board of Governors for the 2026–2028 term and is an IEEE CASS Distinguished Lecturer. Dr. James is widely known for bridging academic research with real-world engineering and entrepreneurial ecosystems, driving advancements in semiconductor technology, neuromorphic computing, and next-generation AI chip development.
