AI driven virtual worlds: towards the new generation of metaverse systems
This talk explores the potential of AI-driven virtual worlds in shaping the next generation of metaverse systems. Dr. Louis Nisiotis will discuss recent technological advancements in immersive environments and examine how the rise of Generative AI enables new ways to create, adapt, and experience virtual worlds. The presentation will focus on the fusion of generative models with virtual worlds for the development of intelligent interactive environments, showcasing how this integration moves us beyond static digital spaces towards co-creative, adaptive, and personalised systems that blend human and artificial agency. It will offer insights into ongoing research and future directions in this rapidly evolving field.
Biography:
Dr. Louis Nisiotis is an Assistant Professor at UCLan Cyprus, specialising in XR, Digital Twins, and intelligent interactive environments. He teaches Games Development and Computer Graphics. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications. And serves the international scientific community through several volunteering and leadership roles. He was the Technical Program Chair for the International Symposium on Emerging Metaverse (2024 and 2025) and previously the General Chair of the International Conference on Intelligent Reality (2022). He is a Steering Committee Member of the IEEE Metaverse Initiative and actively supports IEEE Future Directions contributing to international working groups and expert panels on the convergence of XR with emerging disruptive technologies for developing the next generation of immersive interactive systems.
