IEEE Membership Drive for EEE Students
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in association with the IEEE Transportation Electrification Council (TEC) Student Branch Chapter, conducted an IEEE Membership Drive on 25 August 2025 at the CDC Seminar Hall. The programme aimed to introduce students to the vision and activities of IEEE and to motivate them to join as student members.
The session began with an overview of IEEE, its global structure and the role of student branches and technical societies. The speaker IEEE TEC Student Branch Chapter advisor Dr. K. Karthick explained the benefits of IEEE membership, including access to digital libraries and technical magazines, participation in conferences and contests, funding opportunities for student projects and the value of IEEE on a professional résumé.
Details of IEEE societies relevant to EEE students—such as the Power & Energy Society, Industrial Electronics Society and Vehicular Technology/Transportation Electrification communities—were highlighted, along with examples of technical events, workshops and hackathons conducted under these banners. The process for online enrolment, membership fee structure and renewal procedure was demonstrated step by step.

Dr. K. Karthick
Biography:
Dr. K. Karthick is working as a Professor in Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam, India. He received his B.E. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Periyar University, Salem, India, and M.E. degree in Power Electronics and Drives from Anna University, Chennai, India. He completed his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. He has more than 13 years of experience in teaching. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and member of ISTE. His research interests include machine learning, text detection and recognition, image processing, and electrical drives.
