Title: Electric Utilities and Data Center Loads: Challenges and Solutions
Description: This presentation will provide an overview perspective from the utility beginning with a contextual explanation about the exponential growth in data center loads. The session will draw from industry examples from projects throughout the US. The main areas covered in the presentation are:
Overview of the data center load market, and the resulting challenges in long term load forecasting.
Technology solutions such as Advanced Transmission Technology (ATT) (sometimes called Grid Enhancing Technology or “GETS”) to support faster interconnection times and the limitations of these technologies.
Examples of data center load behavior and emerging utility interconnection requirements to manage system reliability. Behavior of AI data center loads and the limitations for islanded operation.
