The MIMO technique is considered as the third revolution to happen for the wireless communications world. MIMO has been introduced to address the growing demand for higher data-rate applications in communication standards like 3GPP LTE, WLAN and WiMAX™. In MIMO systems both the radio channel propagation conditions and antenna characteristics influence the end user’s quality-of-service (QoS). MIMO channel models, with the ability to simulate the multipath fading that incorporates antenna patterns, are therefore important. Testing of MIMO channel is challenging and time consuming. There are too many variants that have to be taken into account. In this presentation some MIMO channels will be reviewed and a technique will be presented where antenna patterns are taken into account.
