IMPETUS International Research Conference 2026
IMPETUS International Research Conference 2026 was initiated as a pioneering academic endeavor by the IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch, with the guidance and support of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka. The event commenced with a strong emphasis on establishing a research-driven academic culture within the faculty, aiming to create a platform that encourages ethical, human-centered, and multidisciplinary innovation.
The initial phase of the conference focused on strategic planning and academic groundwork. This included the formation of advisory, program, and organizing committees; the identification of conference tracks; and the finalization of the central theme, “Humanity First: Steering Innovation for Ethical Impact.” These foundational activities marked the official commencement of the conference and ensured alignment with international academic standards and IEEE guidelines.
Following this, the conference entered its preparatory and outreach stage, during which key structural components were defined. The proposed hybrid format was introduced to balance local engagement with global accessibility, enabling participation from both national and international researchers. Concurrently, mechanisms for paper submission, review processes, and academic moderation were outlined to maintain scholarly rigor and transparency.
To support these processes, a dedicated conference website (www.impetus.ieeeuwu.org) has been developed and launched, while paper submission and reviewing are conducted through the Microsoft CMT (Conference Management Toolkit) platform.
The call for paper submissions officially opened on 03 February 2026, inviting undergraduate and postgraduate researchers worldwide to present original research contributions and innovative ideas across multiple disciplines. The conference keynote speaker has been confirmed as Brian Helenbrook, Paynter-Krigman Endowed Professor in Engineering Science (Simulation) and Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Clarkson University, USA. His research in numerical simulation of fluid flows and heat transfer exemplifies responsible technological advancement, demonstrating how advanced computational methodologies can address complex real-world engineering challenges.
Following the submission phase, the conference will proceed with a structured peer-review process, author notifications, and camera-ready submissions to ensure the academic quality and integrity of all accepted contributions.
The conference welcomes research submissions under the following thematic tracks:
* Computing and Industrial Information Systems
* Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
* Robotics, Mechatronics, and Embedded Systems
* Science and Technology
The current timeline for the conference is outlined below:
* FEB 06 – Call for Papers Opens
* APR 02 – Full Paper Submission Deadline
* MAY 02 – Author Notification & Early-Bird Registration Opens
* MAY 10 – Camera-Ready Submission & Early-Bird Registration Deadline
* MAY 11 – Regular Registration Opens
* MAY 20 – Regular Registration Deadline
* MAY 27 – Conference Date
Subsequent phases will focus on participant registration, technical session planning, and coordination with keynote speakers and panelists. The inaugural session is scheduled to be conducted physically at the university, symbolizing institutional engagement and academic significance. The technical sessions and closing ceremony will be conducted in a hybrid format, integrating both physical and virtual participation to maximize global reach and inclusivity.
Overall, the IMPETUS International Research Conference 2026 is steadily progressing from its initiation toward full implementation. Supported by a dedicated academic and student leadership structure, the conference is poised to evolve into a flagship international research platform that promotes multidisciplinary collaboration, ethical innovation, and academic excellence.
