Event overview

Join NIST researchers for an in-person tour of the CROMMA system, a pioneering robotic millimeter-wave antenna facility designed for high-precision measurements up to approximately 500 GHz.

Learn how REALM uses multiple six-axis industrial robot arms and advanced positioning systems to perform state-of-the-art free-space antenna and electromagnetic measurements.

What you’ll see

The Configurable Robotic MilliMeter-wave Antenna (CROMMA), a laser-guided hybrid robotic system tailored for millimeter-wave antennas operating roughly from 50 GHz to 500 GHz.

A look at the broader REALM facility, including how robotic platforms enable dynamic measurements, flexible scan geometries, and high-speed characterization for 5G, 6G, and advanced remote sensing systems.

Who should attend

Graduate students, researchers, and professionals working in RF, microwave, millimeter-wave, or wireless communications.

Engineers and technologists interested in metrology, 5G/6G, remote sensing, and robotic measurement systems who want to see cutting-edge national metrology infrastructure in action.

Visitor parking for an antenna calibration tour at NIST Boulder follows the general NIST Boulder visitor parking rules, since the REALM antenna facility is inside the secure campus.

Where to enter and park

Enter the NIST Boulder site at the main gate at 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305, during normal visitor hours (typically 6:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.).

After the security checkpoint, visitors who drive onto the site are directed to park near the Visitors Center and then proceed to their approved destination on campus.
