Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) have emerged as a powerful class of optimization techniques inspired by natural selection and genetics, playing a pivotal role in advancing machine learning. By simulating processes such as mutation, crossover, and selection, EAs efficiently explore complex search spaces and adaptively refine solutions. Their population-based approach enables robust handling of non-linear, multi-modal, and high-dimensional problems where traditional optimization methods often struggle. In machine learning, EAs are widely applied to feature selection, hyperparameter tuning, neural architecture search, and reinforcement learning, offering flexibility and scalability across diverse domains. Moreover, hybrid models that integrate EAs with gradient-based methods enhance convergence speed and solution quality. The adaptability of evolutionary strategies makes them particularly suitable for dynamic environments and problems with incomplete information. As machine learning continues to evolve, EAs provide a biologically inspired framework that fosters innovation, resilience, and efficiency in designing intelligent systems.

Biography:

Dr. Minakshi Rout is an accomplished academic and researcher, currently serving as an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Engineering at KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar. With over two decades of teaching and research experience across reputed institutions in Odisha and Hyderabad, she has established herself as a dedicated educator and mentor. Dr. Rout earned her B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from KIIT University in 2005, followed by an M.Tech. from ITER, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University in 2009. She later completed her Ph.D. in Computational Finance at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University in 2015, reflecting her strong interdisciplinary expertise.

Her research interests span Soft Computing, Evolutionary Computing, Data Mining, and Computational Finance, areas in which she has made significant contributions. Dr. Rout has published over 80 research papers in reputed journals and international conferences, achieving an h-index of 17 and an i10-index of 23, underscoring her scholarly impact. She has successfully guided six Ph.D. scholars, fifteen M.Tech. scholars, and numerous B.Tech. students, fostering innovation and academic excellence.

Dr. Rout’s career exemplifies a blend of rigorous research, effective teaching, and mentorship, making her a respected figure in the academic community.
