The IEEE Kerala Section SIGHT successfully organized the Humanitarian Technology Project Expo as part of IEEE YESS’25 on 20 September 2025 at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut. The Expo served as a dynamic platform that brought together students, professionals, faculty members, and industry representatives to explore innovative technological solutions aligned with IEEE’s mission of advancing technology for humanity.

The primary objective of the Expo was to promote awareness of emerging technologies and their social impact, while encouraging collaboration between academia, industry, and the IEEE community. The exhibition highlighted ongoing humanitarian initiatives and projects developed under the IEEE SIGHT framework, showcasing how technology can be leveraged to address real-world challenges.

The event witnessed an impressive participation of over 1,688 attendees, including IEEE members, students from various engineering institutions, faculty, and industry professionals. Multiple exhibition stalls featured innovative projects from IEEE Student Branches across Kerala, reflecting creativity, technical excellence, and a strong focus on societal problem-solving.

IEEE Kerala Section SIGHT also showcased its in-house research and development products, including the KSRTC Charger, Resilient Light, and Move India Charger. Volunteers and R&D team members actively engaged with visitors, explaining the technical features, real-world applications, and social relevance of these innovations. Information on impactful past projects such as D2RE-B (Baveli) and D2RE-K (Kuthirayalakkudi) was also displayed, highlighting sustained humanitarian efforts.

Noteworthy student-led projects included the Water Surface Cleaning Robot by IEEE SB College of Engineering Chengannur, supported by EPICS in IEEE, which integrates renewable energy, IoT-based monitoring, and efficient propulsion to enhance aquatic environments. Another significant exhibit was the Lights to Life (L2L) initiative by IEEE GEC Kozhikode SIGHT, funded by the IEEE Humanitarian Technology Board, aimed at improving safety at Government Beach Hospital, Kozhikode, through solar-powered streetlights equipped with Wi-Fi cameras.

Additionally, the Expo served as a collaborative ideation platform, encouraging participants to share insights and solutions in response to the recent Wayanad disaster. These discussions aimed to identify potential humanitarian projects for future implementation in the affected region.
