Looking Ahead to the 2026 NEC in California
Although the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC) only recently became effective in California on January 1, 2026, the 2026 NEC was already published in September 2025. Highlights of the 2026 NEC will be covered including new requirements for arc-flash labeling, load calculations, 10-ampere branch circuits, engineering for marinas and EVSE changes, as well as industry trends that are driving NEC changes.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 NEC in California
Biography:
Mike Stone is the NEMA West Coast Technical Field Representative since 2012. He has represented NEMA on Code Making Panel 1 for the 2017, 2020, 2023 and 2026 National Electrical Code cycles. He also serves on the Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical and Energy Code Advisory Committee (CAC) and the CALGreen CAC for the California Building Standards Commission. Prior to his tenure with NEMA, he worked for over 25 years for building departments on the Central Coast of California.
