The International Future Energy Challenge (IFEC) is an international academic competition of a technical nature that brings together university teams from multiple countries, challenging students to design, analyze, and validate high-performance energy systems in accordance with a technical theme defined for each edition.

The 2026 edition, initiated throughout 2025, focuses on the development of an Affordable Bidirectional Onboard Charger for Electric Vehicles. The main technical requirements include a rated power of 1 kW, a minimum power density of 2 kW/L, and a minimum efficiency of 92% at rated power.

In this edition, the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) is participating through the Breaking DAB team, composed of undergraduate and graduate students, primarily affiliated with the IEEE Industrial Applications Society (IAS) Chapter, in addition to volunteer members.

The converter proposed by the team, already validated through simulations, has been approved for the IFEC semifinal stage, which will take place during APEC 2026, on March 22.
