Industrial Visit to India Meteorological Department (IMD)
The Computer Engineering Department GHRCEM, Pune in association with IEEE GHRCEM Student Branch and Women in Engineering has organized an Industry Visit to India Meteorological Department (IMD) with group of 76 students accompanied by faculty members. IMD in Pune provided an in-depth look into an educational initiative to understand meteorological sciences, weather forecasting, and climate monitoring. The visit, which took place on Date 29th July 2025, was aimed at gaining practical insights into the workings of one of the Meteorological Department.
The IMD Pune is a prominent weather forecasting and research center located in Pune, Maharashtra, India. It is one of the six main centers of the IMD and is responsible for providing weather forecasts, warnings, and climate-related information for the western region of India. The IMD Pune is equipped with advanced weather observation and forecasting systems, including radar, satellites, and weather stations, to provide accurate and timely weather information to the public, government agencies, and other stakeholders. It plays a crucial role in disaster management and climate research. Insights into the IMD learn about weather instruments and observe the process of data collection and weather monitoring and through the live demonstration students understand the working of weather radars for storm detection and satellite data reception.
The industrial visit to IMD Pune was an enriching and informative experience. It provided students with hands-on exposure to meteorological technologies and their significance in real-world applications. The visit also inspired many to explore further studies and careers in this domain. This experience has proven highly beneficial for the Students' Career Development.
As the visit concluded, both parties acknowledged the mutual benefits of such interactions.
