Description – NIXI Awareness Session and Internship Opportunities
The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is a not-for-profit organization established under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. NIXI plays a vital role in strengthening India’s internet infrastructure by facilitating efficient internet traffic exchange within the country. It operates key initiatives such as Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), the .IN and .भारत domain registry, IRINN (Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers), and IPv6 adoption programs, contributing significantly to internet resilience, security, and self-reliance.
An awareness session on NIXI was conducted to educate students about its mission, core functions, and career opportunities. The session was delivered by Mr. Vasu Paul Srikar and Mr. Sameer Gahlot, Research Associate at NIXI, who shared valuable insights into NIXI’s role in internet governance, policy research, and technical operations.
The speakers also elaborated on the internship opportunities provided by NIXI, which are designed to offer students practical exposure to real-world internet infrastructure and policy-oriented research. The internships focus on areas such as internet governance, domain name systems, IPv6 deployment, cybersecurity awareness, research and policy analysis, data analytics, and network infrastructure. Interns gain hands-on experience, mentorship from industry experts, and an understanding of national-level internet operations, enhancing both technical and research skills.
The session concluded with interactive discussions, where students gained clarity on eligibility criteria, application procedures, and career pathways associated with NIXI. Overall, the program created strong awareness about India’s internet ecosystem and motivated students to explore internships and careers in internet infrastructure, governance, and research domains.
