1. Background & Rationale
EcoMotion Horizons addressed the intersection of research, sustainability, and innovation, focusing on integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into scientific research. The event emphasized Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) as tools for sustainable mobility, social impact, and technological advancement, inspiring students and researchers to pursue solution-oriented research.

2. Objectives

  • Raise awareness of ESG and SDG alignment in research activities.

  • Demonstrate ITS contributions to sustainable development.

  • Engage students in research culture and innovation.

  • Foster interdisciplinary dialogue through workshops, roundtables, and an ideathon.

3. Target Audience
Undergraduate and graduate students, IEEE members, professionals in transportation, AI, sustainability, and social impact enthusiasts.

4. Program Summary

  • Workshops:

    1. Integrating SDGs into Research: From Concept to Impact – Delivered by Amira Ouerfelli.

    2. Introduction to Intelligent Transportation Systems – Delivered by Mohamed Dhia Bechikh.

  • Innovation Challenge / Ideathon:

    • Sustainable Intelligent Transportation Challenge: ESG & SDG-Driven Innovation

    • Teams developed ITS solutions aligned with sustainability and social inclusivity.

    • Winners received certificates, recognition on IEEE platforms, and potential mentorship.

  • Roundtable Discussions:
    Participants engaged in thematic tables on accessibility, disaster response, resilient transport networks, green transportation, and ITS communication foundations, presenting insights to the group.

  • Closing & Awards:
    Summary of discussions, announcement of ideathon winners, closing remarks, and networking session.

5. Outcomes & Impact

  • Increased awareness of ESG and SDG integration in research.

  • Enhanced student engagement in research culture.

  • Generation of practical ITS solutions addressing humanitarian and sustainability challenges.

  • Strengthened collaboration between IEEE VTS and SIGHT Tunisia.
