With the advancement of digital information and the loss of more and more experienced maintenance personnel at the Utilities and other agencies it is even more important that we move to an approach of targeted maintenance rather than scheduled routine maintenance.  This can be better achieved if we can get useful and easily interpretable information about the most critical equipment in the substation including Circuit Breakers, busbars, etc.  In this presentation we will review the most readily available sensors and how best we can get relevant information from them to be made available to the operators and maintainers.
