SSCS UK and Ireland DL : Prof Ahmed Elwakil : Using Bio-Impedance Measurements For Modeling of Biological Tissues
Abstract:
Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) is an established interdisciplinary field at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and electrical engineering. It focuses on characterizing electrical impedance variations under diverse biochemical conditions to identify critical kinetic events or quantify parameters like material corrosion rates or battery state-of-charge (SoC). In biological context, it is often termed as bio-impedance spectra and serves as a vital non-invasive diagnostic tool for monitoring cellular health, disease progression, among others. This talk surveys EIS fundamentals and measurement techniques, emphasizing impedance data modeling and the extraction of critical model parameters. It further highlights several commercial applications of bio-impedance and future research directions, including the integration of deep learning for automated spectral analysis modeling
