AbstractThe report covers the research and application progresses in the last over 20 years of the inland water environment via remote sensing team called WATERS. The report includes four parts: black and odorous water bodies monitoring, lake and reservoir water turbidity & eutrophication monitoring, rivers and ponds remote sensing applications, and algal bloom and aquatic vegetation monitoring in lacustrine environments.

Speaker Bio: Professor Shen Qian, from International Research Centre of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), Chinese Academy of Sciences. She used the remote sensing from 1 kilometer to 2 meters to monitor the targets, such as large and medium-sized lakes/reservoirs, rivers and ponds, and small water bodies. She focuses on remote sensing of black and odorous water bodies, remote sensing of the water environment, and remote sensing retrieval of water quality parameters for inland water bodies for more than 20 years. In this field, she has led and undertaken over 50 scientific research projects, including topics under the National Key R&D Program, general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, sub-projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Strategic Priority Research Program, and projects commissioned by national ministries and commissions. She has published more than 100 academic papers in domestic and international journals and conferences such as IEEE TGRS and the Journal of Remote Sensing. She has been granted over 30 invention patents. As a co-author, she collaborated on the publication of the academic monograph Hyperspectral Remote Sensing of Inland Water Bodies. In 2020 and 2013, she received the Second Prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award (ranking first and fifth, respectively), and in 2016, she received the Chinese Academy of Sciences Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Award (ranking ninth).
