BioFusion - Hackathon | Exhibition | Career Guidance Sessions
BioFusion 2025 was a multidisciplinary initiative organized with the objective of fostering innovation, research, and professional development among undergraduates and young researchers, with a particular focus on healthcare-related challenges. The event was structured in multiple phases, combining a competitive hackathon, a research and innovation exhibition, and a comprehensive career guidance session series.
The event commenced with a week-long hackathon phase held from 29th December 2025 to 4th January 2026, which focused on the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) models to address real-world diagnostic problems in healthcare. The hackathon attracted over 100 participants and resulted in more than 50 project submissions, reflecting strong interest and engagement. Submissions were evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges possessing expertise in AI/ML and medical domains, ensuring both technical accuracy and healthcare relevance.
The Research Exhibition and Career Guidance Sessions were conducted on 22nd January 2026 at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The exhibition featured a diverse range of projects from multiple disciplines and universities, providing an exceptional platform to showcase emerging innovations and research frontiers. Two awards, Best Research Exhibit and Best Innovation Exhibit were presented, with evaluations carried out by qualified academic professionals.
There were 4 Career Guidance Sessions focusing on Career development and Securing their spot in the ever evolving job market. Also there was a mock interview session conducted by Nagroo company allowing students to have a simulated experience of a technical interview and improve their chances.
BioFusion 2025 was supported by several key partners who contributed significantly to its success, including Biosafe Lab Technologies (Pvt) Ltd as the Title Partner, IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka – StudPro Initiative as the Ecosystem Partner, HackSL as the Hackathon Publicity Partner, with funding support from the IEEE EMBS Global Initiatives Fund and the IEEE EMBS Sri Lanka Section. Their support enhanced the reach, quality, and impact of the event.
Overall, BioFusion 2025 successfully integrated innovation, research, and career development, creating meaningful learning opportunities and industry exposure for participants.
