The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems (CSBS) at Panimalar Engineering
College, in collaboration with the IEEE Student Chapter and Institution’s Innovation Council
(IIC), organized a guest lecture on “Bridging the Gap between College and Industry” on 18th
September 2025 at 8:30 AM in the Lab block 3 - Smart class room CSBS. The session featured
Mr. Sanjay, Associate Technical Writer at Valeris Software Pvt. Ltd., as the resource person.
Mr. Sanjay delivered an engaging session that provided students with a comprehensive
overview of industry expectations. He emphasized the importance of "learning and updating
things and proceeding with practical" skills. He highlighted the key differences between the
college environment and the professional industry, specifically mentioning the need for handson skills in Git, APIs, frameworks, and debugging. The lecture also covered the significance
of team collaboration using tools like Jira and Trello, and the importance of writing clean code
and proper version control. He discussed the necessity of understanding cloud, DevOps, and
security basics.The session further delved into practical skills such as using JIRA, CI, CD, and
EPIC, and the role of Git and SQL in real-world projects. He provided insights on how to get
open-source code from platforms like ChatGPT and create an AI bot.
He also shared valuable tips on preparing for careers, including gaining experience through
internships, hackathons, and open-source contributions. The speaker encouraged students to
use LinkedIn and GitHub to showcase their projects, practice mock interviews, and participate
in coding exercises. He concluded by mentioning the high demand for developers with skills
in Python, DSA, Generative AI, and Machine Learning projects in product-based companies.
The event was successfully organized under the guidance of Dr. Anuradha Durairaj (HoD,
CSBS) and coordinated by Dr. Nagalakshmi (Associate Professor, CSBS), with support from
the IEEE CSBS Student Chapter. The session provided students with valuable industry
exposure, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the
professional world.
