This talk includes discussion and possible display of technical devices that can be additionally added to the basic radio-relay configuration ‘in the field’, such as environmental-monitoring sensors or more complex  instruments (E.g. weather stations) that inform mobile radio amateurs  about weather conditions at the “other end of the road” –without any  need for commercial media sources & infrastructure (TV broadcast, cell  phone towers, etc.) This topic may be also of interest for  agrarian-meteorology, soil science, food production, etc. as well as for  members of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society.

Besides the talk, there will be a workshop ‘in the field’ featuring a team of students who walk around the campus, carrying a handheld ham radio station equipped with a GNSS (GPS) receiver. The second team remains in the lab, trying to receive radio signals (and position) sent by the first team.
