Guest Lecture: Building the Intelligent Grid with Ingrid
Join the IEEE PES/PELS Student Branch at KTH for an exclusive technical deep-dive with Ingrid, one of the leading tech and energy startups pioneering large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and flexible grid resources across the Nordics and Europe.
We are thrilled to welcome Nicklas Bäcker (Co-founder & Chief Strategy Officer) and Simon Berglund (Machine Learning Engineer) from Ingrid to KTH! They will be bridging the gap between our academic studies and the cutting-edge technology actually being deployed in the energy sector today. Whether you are specialising in power systems, data science, or sustainable energy, this is a prime opportunity to understand the real-world direction of the energy transition and explore future internship or master's thesis opportunities.
(Please register for the event via the registration form. Please note that seats are limited so, the registration form might be closed before the intended last date.)

Nicklas Bäcker: Nicklas is a central figure in the Nordic energy transition, years of experience in power grids and energy systems to the table. As a co-founder of Ingrid, he has been instrumental in the company’s meteoric rise—from its founding in 2022 to securing over SEK 1 billion in investment and establishing a multi-gigawatt pipeline of battery storage across Europe.
An alumnus of KTH Royal Institute of Technology (M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Technology) and the Stockholm School of Economics (Executive MBA), Nicklas bridges the gap between complex grid physics and high-level market strategy. He is a frequent expert voice on the role of flexible assets in modernising the grid, appearing on major industry platforms like Energistrategipodden and Solarplaza.
-
Simon Berglund: Simon sits at the technical heart of Ingrid ’s "Intelligent Grid" mission. As a Market Expert, he focuses on the development and deployment of the company's proprietary trading and optimization platform. This AI-driven software is responsible for making split-second decisions—managing over 100,000 variables and constraints—to balance the grid and maximize the value of large-scale battery assets in real-time.
His work involves applying advanced data science to market structures and grid stability, turning massive datasets into actionable strategies that allow BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) to support the electrification of society.
