IEEE MTT-S GGV Student Branch Chapter presents:

SPARK-II | Expert Talk Series

Igniting the Flame of Advanced Research and Knowledge

Event Title:

Special Programme on Advanced Research and Knowledge (SPARK-II): Expert Talk on Design of Power Amplifier

Event Description:

IEEE MTT-S GGV Student Branch Chapter, India, is proud to present the second installment of its flagship expert talk series, SPARK-II. After the successful commencement of SPARK-I, this session aims to dive deep into the technical complexities and modern methodologies of RF and Microwave engineering.

In this session, we are honored to host Dr. Shubhankar Majumdar, a distinguished academician and Senior Member of IEEE. Dr. Majumdar will lead an intensive technical discussion on the Design of Power Amplifiers, focusing on device-circuit co-design, and the transition from theoretical modeling to real-world hardware implementation and more.

Key Highlights:

  • Fundamental Concepts: Introduction to Power Amplifier (PA) classes and efficiency metrics.
  • Advanced Research: Insights into GaN HEMT-based ultra-wideband PAs and 5G/6G applications.
  • Practical Design: Understanding the matching networks and the role of EDA tools like ADS in the design flow.
  • Interactive Q&A: A dedicated segment to address research queries and career guidance in RF Microelectronics.

  Speakers

Dr. Shubhankar majumdar of National Institute Of Technology, Meghalaya

Topic:

Design Of Power Amplifier

Abstract of the Talk:

RF power amplifiers (PAs) play a critical role in transmitters used in 4G/5G communications, satellite links, radar, and IoT devices, where efficiency, linearity, bandwidth, and thermal stability are key performance metrics. The speaker will discuss device selection, load–pull analysis, impedance matching techniques, stability considerations, harmonic tuning, and efficiency enhancement methods such as Class-F and Doherty architectures. Practical aspects including biasing networks, layout challenges, thermal management, and measurement techniques will also be covered. The session aims to bridge theoretical foundations with real-world design insights, making it valuable for undergraduate students, postgraduate scholars, researchers, and faculty members working in RF and microwave engineering. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the complete RF PA design flow from specifications to hardware realization.
