Workshop 03: Control Systems & Industrial Applications
AUTOSYS 2026 – Workshop 03: Control Systems & Industrial Applications is part of the AUTOSYS technical workshop series organized by the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
This workshop focuses on real-world industrial automation applications using PLC-based control systems. Participants will explore how programmable logic controllers are used to manage pneumatic systems, electrical motors, and automated industrial processes.
The session will be conducted by Eng. Dayan Marabedda, Head of Engineering at Hemas Consumer Brands, who will share practical industry insights and demonstrate how PLC systems are applied in modern manufacturing environments.
Topics covered include pneumatic control using PLC, operation of single and double acting cylinders, solenoid valve control, electrical motor control, DOL starter logic, safety interlocks, sequencing control using step-by-step logic, and an introduction to fault handling techniques.
Through this workshop, participants will gain practical knowledge of implementing PLC-based automation systems used in industrial production and process control.
