IEEE UNIBEN Member’s Workshop: The Opportunity Playbook


The IEEE University of Benin Student Branch will host a virtual Member’s Workshop titled “The Opportunity Playbook”, focused on helping students understand and strategically leverage IEEE opportunities for academic and professional growth.

This session will provide participants with a clear overview of the IEEE opportunity landscape, including scholarships, grants, competitions, conferences, and awards available to student members. Attendees will also receive practical guidance on how to approach these opportunities effectively.

A major component of the workshop will focus on writing strong and competitive applications, including how to craft compelling statements, structure responses, and position personal experiences to stand out in selection processes.

The session will be facilitated by the immediate past Chair of IEEE UNIBEN, Favour Owenosa Aguebor, who will share insights from her experience within IEEE and her journey navigating various opportunities. She will be joined by Chibuikem Okoye, who will provide additional perspectives on maximizing IEEE membership and preparing for opportunities.

The workshop is designed to be practical and interactive, equipping participants with actionable strategies they can apply immediately to improve their chances of securing IEEE opportunities.

Biography:

Favour Owenosa Aguebor is an active IEEE volunteer with strong interests in energy systems, research, and engineering development. She has demonstrated excellence in technical writing and research through her participation in IEEE competitions and conferences.
She emerged as a 2nd-place winner at the IEEE Smart Village (ISV) Student Paper Competition 2025 (Postgraduate Category) with her paper on the energy transition in Africa, and has also presented a conference paper at IEEE NIGERCON 2024.
Through her involvement in IEEE activities, she has developed practical experience in research, technical communication, and navigating global IEEE opportunities. She is passionate about helping students understand how to position themselves effectively for scholarships, grants, and academic opportunities through intentional preparation and active participation.
