IEEE PELS SBC HBTU Kanpur, in collaboration with IEEE PELS UP Section Chapter, IEEE Student Branch HBTU Kanpur and IEEE WIE Student Affinity Group HBTU Kanpur, is organizing a series of technical and professional development activities to celebrate PELS Day 2026.

1) Webinar on “Blueprint: ESE Success Strategy, Preparation, and Career Growth” by Mr. Shikhar Srivastava (AIR 28, ESE 2019), focusing on effective preparation strategies, career opportunities, and professional growth in engineering services.

2) Hands-on Workshop on MATLAB and Simulink for Electrical Engineers, designed to provide practical exposure to industry-relevant tools widely used for modeling, simulation, and analysis in electrical engineering applications. The session will be conducted by Prof. Sanjiv Kumar, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, HBTU Kanpur, Fellow (IETE), and Senior Member (IEEE). Participants will learn the fundamentals of MATLAB programming, system modeling using Simulink, and their applications in solving real-world electrical engineering problems through hands-on exercises and live demonstrations.

3) Alumni Interaction Series – Alumni Talk 1 featuring Ms. Jyoti Srivastava, Senior Section Engineer at RDSO, Lucknow, where participants will gain valuable insights into career development, professional experiences, and opportunities in the engineering sector.

4) The Yoga Day Celebration, on International Day of Yoga, aims to promote physical health, mental well-being, and inner balance among participants. Organized by IEEE PELS, the session includes guided yoga practices, breathing exercises, and mindfulness activities to help students and professionals manage stress and enhance focus. The event encourages a healthy lifestyle while fostering a sense of community and holistic development

Hands-on Workshop on MATLAB and Simulink for Electrical Engineers

IEEE PELS SBC HBTU Kanpur, in collaboration with IEEE Student Branch HBTU Kanpur and IEEE WIE SBA HBTU Kanpur, is organizing a two-day Hands-on Workshop on MATLAB and Simulink for Electrical Engineers as part of the IEEE PELS Day 2026 celebrations.

The workshop will be conducted by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjiv Kumar, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, HBTU Kanpur, Senior Member IEEE, Fellow IETE, and Dean, International Student Affairs, HBTU Kanpur. With extensive experience in Power Electronics, Electric Drives, and MATLAB/Simulink-based modeling and simulation, he will guide participants through both theoretical concepts and practical applications.

The workshop is designed to provide participants with hands-on exposure to MATLAB programming and Simulink-based system modeling. Topics include fundamentals of MATLAB, simulation of electrical circuits and power electronic converters, modeling of electric drives, analysis of electrical engineering systems, and practical implementation of engineering solutions using MATLAB and Simulink.

Participants will gain valuable experience through live demonstrations, simulation exercises, and interactive learning sessions, helping them develop industry-relevant skills and strengthen their understanding of modern computational tools widely used in academia, research, and industry.

Biography:

Prof. (Dr.) Sanjiv Kumar is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), Kanpur, and currently serves as Dean, International Student Affairs and Coordinator, HRD Cell. He obtained his Ph.D. and M.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, with specialization in Power Electronics and Electric Drives.

A Senior Member of IEEE and Fellow of IETE, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjiv Kumar has over 18 years of teaching, research, and industrial experience. His research interests include Power Electronics, Multilevel Inverters, Industrial Electric Drives, High-Power Converters, and Electric Vehicle Technologies. He has authored numerous research papers in reputed IEEE, Springer, and Taylor & Francis journals and has delivered expert lectures and workshops on MATLAB, Simulink, Power Electronics, and Electric Drives at various academic and professional forums. He is also the Faculty Advisor of IEEE PELS SBC HBTU Kanpur and recipient of the IEEE UP Section Outstanding Branch Counselor/Chapter Advisor Award 2024.

As part of the IEEE PELS Day 2026 celebrations, IEEE STB HBTU Kanpur, IEEE PELS SBC HBTU Kanpur, and IEEE WIE SBA HBTU Kanpur are organizing a webinar on “Blueprint: ESE Success Strategy, Preparation, and Career Growth.”

The session will be delivered by Mr. Shikhar Srivastava, Divisional Electrical Engineer/Traction Distribution, Mumbai, Central Railway, and AIR 28 in ESE 2019. The webinar aims to provide students with valuable insights into Engineering Services Examination preparation, effective study strategies, time management, interview preparation, and career opportunities in government engineering services. Participants will also gain knowledge about the professional responsibilities and growth prospects available in the Indian Railways and other public sector organizations.

Biography:

Mr. Shikhar Srivastava is an alumnus of the Electrical Engineering Department, HBTU Kanpur (2010–2014 Batch), and is currently serving as Divisional Electrical Engineer/Traction Distribution (DEE/TRD), Mumbai, Central Railway. He secured an outstanding All India Rank (AIR) 28 in the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2019, demonstrating exceptional academic and professional excellence. Through his experience in the Indian Railways and success in one of India's most prestigious engineering examinations. His expertise spans ESE preparation strategies, career planning, and professional growth in government engineering services.

The session aims to connect students with accomplished alumni and provide insights into professional life after graduation. Ms. Jyoti Srivastava will share her career journey, experiences in the railway sector, challenges faced during her professional growth, and key lessons learned throughout her career. Ms. Jyoti Srivastava is an alumna of the Electrical Engineering Department, HBTU Kanpur (2004–2008 Batch), and currently serves as a Senior Section Engineer at the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Lucknow. With extensive experience in railway engineering and technical project implementation.
