Topic:

Semantic Communications and Multimodal LLMs for Connected Vehicles

The explosive growth of connected and autonomous vehicles demands a fundamental rethinking of how data is transmitted, interpreted, and acted upon at the network edge. This talk explores the convergence of semantic communications and multimodal large language models (LLMs) as a transformative paradigm for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) networks. Rather than transmitting raw data, semantic communication frameworks extract and convey task-relevant meaning, dramatically reducing bandwidth requirements while preserving decision-critical information. We examine how multimodal LLMs can fuse heterogeneous sensor streams to enable context-aware inference and real-time situational awareness in resource-constrained vehicular environments. Open research challenges in latency, reliability, and edge deployment are discussed, with a view toward 6G-enabled intelligent transportation systems.
