Tools and Tricks for Optics and Photonics
The IEEE Photonics Society Italy Chapter is pleased to promote “Hack Your Research!” (HYR), a dedicated event taking place in the framework of the Italian Conference on Optics and Photonics (ICOP 2026), held in l’Aquila from 15 to 17 June. Organized in collaboration with Hack your Research!, this initiative is designed to support researchers, early-career scientists, and professionals in enhancing their research practices through the adoption of effective tools and methodologies.
In today’s rapidly evolving scientific landscape, the ability to manage complexity, improve efficiency, and leverage digital tools is essential. This session aims to provide participants with practical insights, advanced tools, and actionable strategies to streamline research activities and increase productivity.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Explore digital tools and platforms supporting research workflows
- Learn techniques to enhance productivity and organization
- Identify approaches to simplify complex research processes
- Engage in interactive discussions with peers and experts
The event also offers a valuable opportunity for professional interaction and community building. Attendees will be able to exchange ideas, share best practices, and foster collaborations in a welcoming and informal setting, complemented by light refreshments.

Call for Contributions
Participants are encouraged to actively contribute by proposing demonstrations of tools, workflows, or innovative solutions. Our attendees are eager to hear about your tool that could be anything, from a single line of code to a full package or software.

Fill out this form to submit your demo proposal! You will have a table and a monitor available where you can interactively show slides, code, or applications directly there and chat with small groups of peers. Demos should be accessible, preferably using free and open-source tools in common languages like Python/MATLAB. The topic can be freely chosen; past demos can be seen here: Hack your Research!
