Overview of Intellectual Property for Electrical Engineers
This presentation will provide engineers basic knowledge of different types of intellectual property such as patent, copyright, trade secret, and trademark/trade dress so that they can identify which type of intellectual property may be best to protect their innovations. The presentation will include an explanation of the current intellectual property legal landscape, provide illustrative examples, and discuss possible pitfalls.

Biography:
Atanu Das has been a practicing patent attorney for over 20 years. He is currently a partner at the law firm of Guntin & Gust and a law professor at Loyola University Chicago. His practice focuses on patent portfolio development of High Tech companies that includes opinion work and client counseling as well as patent procurement. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Mr. Das worked as a systems engineer at a telecommunication equipment manufacturer. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and his M.S. Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago. Fun Fact: He is one of the few people to have been published in both an IEEE journal and a Harvard Law Journal.
