System-Level EMC Challenges in Qualifying Aircraft Units
Biography:
Selvam Rajendran is a Senior Principal Engineer at Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, with over two decades of expertise in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), electrical systems, and aircraft power integration. Throughout his career, he has contributed to multiple international aircraft programs for major OEMs, including Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Dassault Aviation, MRJ and COMAC. Selvam has played a key role in the EMC design, mitigation, and certification of critical aircraft systems, spanning compliance with RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-461 requirements.
Prior to joining Collins Aerospace, he held engineering leadership and technical management positions at L&T Technology Services, where he led multidisciplinary engineering programs and drove strategic aerospace business growth. He began his career working on advanced communication systems, industrial electronics, and high-speed compliance test solutions.
An active member of the engineering community, Selvam serves as the EMC Chair for the IEEE Rock River Valley Section and contributes through technical paper reviews and industry knowledge sharing. His current research focuses on system-level EMC robustness, installation-driven EMI mechanisms, and quantitative EMC risk assessment methodologies for next-generation more-electric aircraft systems.
