Seminar: Engineering the Cities of the Future and Why YOU Can Build Them
What if the next person to design a smarter, greener and more connected city was sitting in this room Engineering is not only about machines, equations or computers It is about solving real problems that affect people every day traffic, pollution, energy, health, communication, safety and even climate change In this interactive talk, students will discover how engineers help shape the cities of the future through technology, creativity and teamwork From intelligent transport systems and robots to artificial intelligence, renewable energy and smart buildings, we will explore how engineering can improve people’s lives around the world The session will also challenge students to think like future innovators by asking simple but powerful questions How can we make cities safer? More sustainable? More fun to live in? Through examples students will see that engineering is not a distant or impossible career It is a way of turning ideas into impact b ecause smart cities only exist with smart people

Biography:
Prof Raquel Castro Madureira has received the degree of Doctor in Electrotechnics at the University of Aveiro in 2015 where she had already completed her bachelor's and master's studies (pre Bologna) in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering in 1995 and 1998 respectively She is a visiting assistant professor at University of Aveiro (UA) in Portugal.
She started his professional activity in 1995 as a scientific research fellow at the Instituto de Telecomunicações de Aveiro. She had a brief stint at the beginning of 1998 at Philips Portuguesa, Industrial Section of Ovar as a Product Engineer and Project Leader
In the 2013-2017 term, she was elected mayor as Executive Councilor in the Aveiro City Council with the following responsibilities Environment and Quality Youth, Seniors and Entrepreneurship and Housing She was the District Delegate of Aveiro of the National Portuguese Engineers Association for the 2019-2022 triennium. During her professional career, Eng published several scientific articles and co authored a book
