Topic:

The Hidden Signatures of Vegetation: Decoding Vegetation with Hyperspectral Remote Sensing

The talk titled “The Hidden Signatures of Vegetation: Decoding Vegetation with Hyperspectral Remote Sensing” is important because it introduces participants to advanced remote sensing techniques that enable detailed analysis of vegetation characteristics beyond the capabilities of conventional imaging systems. Hyperspectral remote sensing helps in identifying plant species, monitoring vegetation health, detecting stress, estimating chlorophyll and moisture content, and studying ecosystem dynamics with high spectral precision. The session will provide valuable insights into modern Earth observation technologies and their applications in precision agriculture, forestry, biodiversity conservation, climate change studies, and environmental monitoring.

Biography:

Dr. Arun Prasad Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu. His research focuses on hyperspectral remote sensing, geoinformatics, machine learning, invasive plant species, disaster risk reduction, spatial epidemiology, and time-series analysis in remote sensing.

He completed his PhD from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in 2016. He was awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt International Climate Protection Fellowship by the Government of Germany and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the German Remote Sensing Data Centre, German Aerospace Centre. He also received the Green Talents Young Scientist Award from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in recognition of his contributions to sustainability research.
With his expertise in remote sensing and GIS applications, he has published several research papers and actively engages in interdisciplinary research integrating
earth observation data and contemporary analytical techniques for environmental monitoring and sustainable development.
