Technology with a Purpose

Join the IEEE MOVE Volunteer Team!

Are you looking for a powerful way to leverage your technical expertise, management skills, or passion for public service to make a real-world impact?

IEEE Mobile Outreach Using Volunteer Engagement (MOVE) is calling on YOU! This incredible emergency relief and community outreach initiative deploys advanced mobile technology units to support disaster operations and inspire the next generation through STEM. Funded entirely by donations and operated by dedicated volunteers, MOVE assists the American Red Cross and other entities during major crises by providing vital communications, power, and infrastructure support when it matters most.

πŸ’‘ Come with an Open Mind!

We want you to join our upcoming informational meeting to learn more. Whether you're interested in taking on a leadership role, signing up for just one small role, mixing and matching multiple responsibilities, or simply wanting to find out how this amazing program operates—everyone is welcome. No pressure, just possibilities.

🚨 URGENT REGIONAL NEED: DFW Area Local Support Team

The Central Zone truck is being positioned right here in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Area!

To ensure it remains 100% mission-ready, we are building a localized care and oversight team. Here is how it breaks down:

  • The Commitment: Bi-weekly (every other week) checks.
  • A Shared Load: This is a distributed team effort! By sharing tasks across multiple individuals, the time commitment per person is incredibly light.
  • The Role: Looking for members with an attention to detail and ability to manage. You will test and inspect onboard systems and provide critical on-the-ground information to the Zone and IEEE-USA leadership as necessary.
  • ❌ No Heavy Mechanics Required: All significant maintenance (such as oil changes or major repairs) is handled at the MOVE USA level in coordination with contracted commercial shops. Your focus is strictly testing and reporting!

🚚 Drivers Wanted (Nationwide & Regional Support)

We need drivers to support our fleet across a variety of vital deployment tracks:

  • Active Red Cross Deployments: Safely navigating the trucks directly into disaster zones to establish emergency operations.
  • Transportation & Positioning Deployments: Moving vehicles between operational bases, zones, and strategic standby locations.
  • STEM / Outreach Deployments: Taking the vehicles out to community events, fairs, and local schools.

🌟 A Multitude of MOVE Roles Catering to Your Interests

The MOVE organization has a place for every professional interest and specialty within IEEE. We are actively seeking leaders and team contributors nationwide across these teams:

β›ˆοΈ Weather Team: Track severe storms daily and provide routing to ensure truck and crew safety. πŸ“» Amateur Radio Team: Support onboard amateur radio systems and disaster radio communications.
πŸ’» Network Team: Manage advanced digital communications, cellular arrays, switches, and satellite systems. πŸ“š Training Team: Coordinate driver, deployment, and operational training alongside monthly tech talks.
πŸŽ’ STEM Outreach: Facilitate engaging learning opportunities to inspire the next generation of engineers. πŸ“Š Operations & Finance: Manage deployment strategies, logistics, and authorize zone-level budgets.
πŸ“’ Communications: Update social channels, web portals, and author regional newsletters. πŸ’° Fundraising: Secure critical external donations and corporate backing that keep the fleet funded.
