AI Equity Workshop

Are you ready to explore the world of Artificial Intelligence, and make it fair for everyone?

The AI Equity Workshop is a 5-day hands-on camp for children under 12, designed to introduce the exciting world of AI through creative activities, team challenges, and real experiments. Participants will discover how AI works, why fairness and inclusion matter in technology, and how even the youngest minds can shape the future.

No experience needed,  just curiosity!

The workshop is part of the Aurinkolab STEM Line series, created to inspire the next generation of innovators, creators, and changemakers.

Topic:

AI for kids: train your own simple AI

Have you ever wondered how AI learns? In this hands-on activity, children become AI trainers for a day!

Using Google's Teachable Machine — a free, visual, and beginner-friendly tool — kids teach a computer to recognise images, sounds, or poses simply by showing examples. No coding needed, just curiosity and creativity.

What children will do: Collect examples by taking photos or recording sounds, train their own AI model in the browser, test it and see how it reacts, then improve it by adding more examples — just like real AI engineers do.

What children will discover: The more examples you give, the smarter your AI becomes. AI learns from people — which means people can also make it fairer and better.

Why it matters: This activity brings AI from something mysterious and distant to something children can touch, shape, and understand. It sparks the key insight at the heart of AI Equity — AI is not magic, it is a mirror of the people who build it.

Age: 7–12 Duration: 45–60 minutes

Tools: Teachable Machine by Google (teachablemachine.withgoogle.com)

Equipment: Laptop or tablet with a camera, browser
