Join the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Africa Region as we celebrate PELS Day 2026 with a special virtual event dedicated to professional advancement, leadership development, and chapter engagement across Africa.

The event will feature an AMAP Support Webinar on IEEE Senior Member Elevation, designed to guide eligible IEEE members through the Senior Member application process. Participants will gain valuable insights into the eligibility requirements, application procedures, best practices for preparing a successful application, and the support available through the IEEE PELS Advancing Member Appreciation Program (AMAP).

The webinar will be delivered by Qianwen Xu, Senior Member, IEEE, Associate Professor at KTH Sweden, and Chair of IEEE PELS AMAP.

In addition, the event will host a PELS Africa Region Chapter Leaders Meetup, bringing together PELS Chapter Chairs and Student Branch Chapter Chairs from across Africa. This interactive session will provide a platform for networking, sharing experiences, discussing challenges and best practices, exploring strategies for chapter growth and member engagement, and strengthening collaboration within the PELS community across the continent.

Whether you are aspiring to attain IEEE Senior Member grade or seeking to enhance the impact of your PELS chapter, this event offers an excellent opportunity to learn, connect, and grow.

Topics to be Covered:

  • IEEE Senior Member eligibility requirements
  • Step-by-step application process
  • AMAP support for Senior Member elevation
  • Chapter leadership and engagement strategies
  • Networking and collaboration opportunities for African PELS leaders

Target Audience:

  • IEEE PELS Members
  • IEEE Senior Member Aspirants
  • PELS Chapter Chairs
  • Student Branch Chapter Chairs

Biography:

Qianwen Xu, SMIEEE is a tenured Associate Professor in the Division of Electric Power and Energy Systems at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, where she leads the Intelligent Sustainable Grid (ISG) Lab and co-directs the Dig-it Lab. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2018 and subsequently held research positions at Aalborg University, Denmark, Imperial College London, UK, and NTU Singapore.

Her research focuses on advanced control, optimization, and artificial intelligence applications for power-electronics-dominated grids, microgrids, renewable energy integration, and sustainable energy systems. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, including numerous papers in leading IEEE Transactions journals, and has served as Principal Investigator on several internationally funded research projects supported by organizations such as the Swedish Research Council, Swedish Energy Agency, Vinnova, EU Horizon, WASP, and Digital Futures.

Dr. Xu currently serves as Chair of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Sweden Chapter, and as Vice Chair of the IEEE PELS Technical Committee on Energy Access and Off-Grid Systems (TC-12). She is also an Associate Editor for several prestigious IEEE journals, including IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification, and the IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics.

Her outstanding contributions to advanced control and artificial intelligence solutions for sustainable energy systems have earned her numerous international recognitions, including the IEEE J. David Irwin Early Career Award (2025), the Nordic Energy Challenge First Prize (2022), the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2019), and the Excellent Doctorate Research Work Award from NTU Singapore (2018). Her research on smart microgrids and safe AI for energy systems has also been recognized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA 100) for its societal impact and innovation potential.
