Cybersecurity in the Age of GenAI: Defending Systems, Data, and Trust
Generative AI (GenAI) is reshaping cybersecurity by improving speed, automation, and human decision-making capabilities. However, it also creates new security challenges across systems (data and applications). How GenAI can be used for threat detection, incident response, and secure coding practices will be explained. The session highlights the risks, such as prompt injection, sensitive data leakage, model poisoning, misuse of AI agents, and other GenAI-specific threats. You will learn why sensitive data must be protected throughout the full lifecycle (at rest, in transit, during training, during retrieval, and throughout deployment). Trust, identity, access control, and human oversight must be foundational to any GenAI-enabled solutions. The goal is to help organizations use AI to strengthen cybersecurity operations, while securing AI systems against emerging threats (prompt injection, data leakage, model poisoning, and misuse of autonomous agents).
Biography:
Dr. Ank Zaman is a computer science researcher and faculty member specializing in cybersecurity and privacy-preserving data publishing. Dr. Zaman completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Guelph, Canada, working in privacy-preserving data sanitization and secure data publishing. He has also completed his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Northern British Columbia, BC, Canada, where he researched large-scale semantic data processing, and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science and engineering from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
Ank’s research expertise includes Deep learning, cybersecurity, data privacy, and intelligent transportation systems, with a special focus on privacy-preserving data publishing and secure data analytics. He has worked on advancing methods in privacy-preserving data publishing, secure information sharing, trustworthy computing, data anonymization, and cybersecurity.
He has served as a reviewer for top-tier journals and conferences, and as a leader on various IEEE technical committees. He has publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
As a professional speaker, Ank’s expertise spans a wide range of technical and non-technical subjects at the intersection of theory, applied research, and the real-world cybersecurity challenges organizations face today.
